The partial solar eclipse on 12 August is a beautiful natural phenomenon that everyone can admire for free. The moon will cover 90% of the sun. You will clearly notice the changes taking place: it will get colder and darker, birds will stop chirping, and shadows will become distorted.
Between 19:00 and 21:00 the public is welcome at the Huygens Building observatory to view the eclipse through telescopes. Volunteers from the Astronomische Kring Nijmegen, astronomers and students from Radboud University will explain the physics of the eclipse and tell you about the research done at the university.
In the event of cloudy weather, a livestream from another location will be projected.
Important! Never look directly at the sun! CDs, welding goggles, and sunglasses allow harmful radiation to pass through, which can damage your eyes. Use only certified eclipse glasses or project the sun using a pinhole method.
