Pop-up forest

Monday 8 May 2023, 9 am - Friday 2 June 2023, 4 pm
Towards a new era

From 8 to 31 May, a new forest will pop up on the Radboud campus. Native trees and shrubs will bring visitors and students a little closer to nature again. With varying programming, you can find something different in the forest each time: knowledge, poetry, music - or simply some peace and quiet in the green oasis.

The era we now live in is also known as the Anthropocene. It is an age in which humans dominate. We want too much in a short time. We have put ourselves at the top of the hierarchical ladder and that mindset has got us into trouble. Resulting in petrified environments, melting ice caps and disappearing biodiversity. But what if we move closer to nature again? We need to move towards a world where humans, technology and nature are balanced and live in symbiosis with each other: it is time for symbiosis.

From 8 May, you can enjoy nature at Linnaeusplein on the Radboud campus. Stroll through the pop-up forest of native trees and shrubs. Among the greenery, you will meet artists, academics, students and others. Be surprised by artificial intelligence-generated artworks, listen to special stories or marvel at poetry, spoken-word and music.

The problem is, that dominant notions of property are deeply embedded in the law, in practice and, most troubling, in our minds.
