Please note: this module is taught in Dutch.
What is Storytelling?
Storytelling has two parts: 'story' and 'telling'. 'Story' is about the construction, structure, composition of your story. How do you keep your audience engaged through your structure? What narrative tricks can you use to keep your audience captivated? In this module, we use examples from literature, film and theatre to teach that.
'Telling' is about the form in which you tell your story. How do you stand on stage? How do you use your surroundings? What images do you use? What objects do you bring? Theatre, visual art and music offer a treasure trove of storytelling forms for this purpose. You can apply these to any presentation.
What will we do?
First of all, we draw inspiration from artistic disciplines. Think of film, literature, theatre, visual arts and music. At the same time, we look at what we can bring from these to different types of presentations. Then we will structure our own story, inspired by these examples. Finally, we transform this story into a dazzling presentation.
Lecturer
This module is taught by Walter Breukers. Among other things, Walter is theatre maker and presenter and has performed hundreds of times in all sorts of settings. He has, for example, written and performed four full-length theatre shows. Walter also did the Honours Academy at Radboud University, where he studied Biomedical Sciences and philosophy.
Sessions
The module consists of five sessions on Tuesday evenings from 18:30 to 21:00.
The Radboud Honours Academy believes that learning is best experienced when we work together in the same space, so physical presence is required. If you know that there is one or more sessions that you cannot attend, please choose a different module, so that you can get the best out of this experience, with your fellow students.
