Public Speaking

Public speaking is a essential skill, no matter your studies or your career path. Whether you have to defend your thesis, give a training, or pitch a product: feeling confident speaking in front of a group will help get your message across. Luckily, persuasive public speaking is a skill that you can learn – but it does take practice.

    General

The Public Speaking module consists of five training sessions that lay a solid foundation in the art of public speaking. Each training session begins with a brief overview of the theory behind effective public speaking. This is followed by challenging exercises that allow you to put the theory into practice right away. Each session focuses on a different aspect of public speaking.

    Important topics:

    • Body language
    • Use of voice
    • Structure
    • Rhetoric
    • Framing

    What does the module involve?

By focusing on the personal goals of the group, participants of all levels can grow in their public speaking skills. We provide personal feedback that you can immediately implement in your next speech. In each training session, you can expect multiple opportunities to practise, ensuring a steep learning curve! In addition to classroom training, participants also receive small homework assignments, such as preparing a short speech.

    Teachers

United Netherlands aims to give motivated students and young professionals the opportunity to develop themselves in a safe but challenging group environment. The module is taught by former United Netherlands students, who are approachable and use their experience to challenge participants at all levels.

    Schedule

The course consists of 5 sessions which will take place on Tuesday evenings, 18.30 - 20.30 hrs.

The course will take place on campus. The Honours Academy believe that the best learning happens when we collaborate in the same workspace, so your physical presence is required! If you know that you cannot attend one or more sessions, pick a different course so you can get the most out of this experience with your fellow students.
