The Future is Rhizomatic
How can we imagine just, inclusive and liveable futures – and shape them together? During Reclaiming Our Futures, artists, researchers, activists, creators and citizens will come together for two days not only to take a critical look at the future, but also to collectively imagine and create new social, linguistic and technological futures.
The festival is rooted in intersectional solidarity and pluriversal perspectives. Through workshops, screenings, exhibitions and performances, space is created for collective reflection, experimentation and imagination.
The festival’s motto is The Future is Rhizomatic. The rhizome – like ginger, which also features in the festival’s visual identity – grows horizontally, constantly branching out and consisting of a multitude of interconnected parts. The rhizome thus represents visions of the future that are not linear or centrally controlled, but rather emerge in a decentralised, relational, adaptive and collective manner.
As a metaphor for our future, the rhizome invites us to imagine worlds in which diverse ways of being, knowing, communicating, creating and loving can coexist, without being dominated by a single central power. In this way, Reclaiming Our Futures explores the possibilities for pluriversal, interconnected and humane futures in which every being can flourish in their own way.
