Shared decision making in patients with thyroid cancer is an important part of treatment. When patients are well informed by their doctor and are actively involved in decisions about their care, they can work together to arrive at the most suitable treatment option. A communication training in shared decision making for physicians and patient decision aids for patients were developed to support this process. This thesis shows that adding patient decision aids to consultations with physicians does not have a direct effect on the level of shared decision making, but patients do appreciate them. Therefore, we believe that patient decision aids, especially used by untrained physicians, are valuable and help support both patients and doctors in the decision making process.
Rosalie Koot (1986) completed her medical training at VU, Amsterdam in 2011. She began her residency in Internal Medicine in 2013 and her endocrinology fellowship in 2018. In 2019, she paused her residency to start a PhD at departments Health Evidence and Internal Medicine at the Radboud University. She completed her endocrinology fellowship in 2024 and now works as an endocrinologist at the Flevoziekenhuis, Almere.
