Working method during the course
The course consists of three sessions of 3 hours. During the meetings, you will work interactively on course assignments that are in line with your own supervision practice. The course is designed on the assumption that you supervise students during the course period. There is a fourth, concluding session for the completion of this competency domain for teachers in the UTQ programme and for PhD candidates who want to obtain a partial UTQ certificate. Teachers who do not want to obtain this certificate do not have to be present during the fourth meeting.
Teachers participating in the UTQ programme or PhD candidates who want to obtain a partial UTQ certificate, work on their UTQ assignment for the competence domain Student Supervision during the meetings. The implementation of the UTQ assignment is (partly) carried out in your faculty. During the course, you will plan an observation of a supervision meeting from a mentor in the faculty and receive feedback from a student you supervise. For the UTQ assignment, you are required to supervise at least two students during the course period.
The course is taught in English, unless all participants speak Dutch.
Certificate of attendance
Teachers who have attended all meetings and completed the assignments will receive a certificate of attendance. In order to receive the Certificate of attendance, active participation is required for 3 of the 4 meetings of the course.
Partial UTQ certificate
Teachers within the regular UTQ programme and PhD candidates who want to obtain a partial UTQ certificate complete the competence domain Student Supervision with the trainer during the concluding meeting of the course. When the course and the UTQ assignment have been successfully completed, the course instructor will give their advice to the faculty to award the partial UTQ certificate. Your faculty is responsible for awarding this certificate.
The partial UTQ certificate for Student Supervision is part of a national pilot for partial certificates in which most universities in the Netherlands participate.
