Studiedag middeleeuwen

Friday 22 March 2024, 11 am - 4:30 am

Love it is a concept of all times, but how did the medieval man actually view "love"? What were the love affairs of medieval monks? And how did you enchant a lover with a love potion? You will learn all this at the upcoming edition of the Radboud Study Day Middle Ages: 'Rosary and moonshine: love in the Middle Ages', which will take place on Friday, March 22 at Radboud University.

The Middle Ages were a time when there was no Tinder, but people opted for a well-brewed love potion to enchant someone. Romance came out in music and jokes. From a courtly song to declare someone's love to sex education in songbooks, it was all there in the Middle Ages. Love was not only between people, but also between God. Did something like self-love exist in the Middle Ages as we know it today? These and other themes surrounding love in the Middle Ages will be highlighted in six intriguing lectures.

The study day will take place in the Elinor Ostrom Building on the Radboud campus from 11:00 to 16:30. Admission for regular visitors is €8 and free for Radboud University students and staff. You can register by sending an email to: studiedagmiddeleeuwen [at]
