Tasting summer wines with Michiel

Thursday 28 May 2026, 7 pm

Is orange wine still as hip, or is the hype over? And what are the similarities and differences compared to rosé?

The biggest difference between orange wine and rosé is actually a reversal of technique. Whereas rosé is 'red treated like white', orange wine is 'white treated like red'.

  • Rosé is the king of the terrace and light salads, but there are also varieties that are gastronomically versatile.
  • Orange wine is a "gastronomic blockbuster." Thanks to the combination of the acidity of white wine and the power (tannins) of red wine, it can handle dishes where rosé and regular white wine fall short, such as fermented vegetables, spicy Asian dishes, or aged cheeses.

Colleague and oenologist Michiel Buijs will take you this evening into the somewhat lesser-known world of these two wines, perhaps complemented by a glass of red and some tasty bites.
