During this course, you will learn more about your role as a beginning academic teacher and build a didactic foundation for academic teaching.

    Course content

    During this course, you will translate basic didactic principles about learning and teaching into the implementation of group teaching at Radboud University.

    Target group

    In order to develop yourself fully in the competence domain Performance of teaching, it is necessary that you have appropriate teaching tasks when you participate in the course. If you do not have these tasks, consult your supervisor. Lecturers who do not participate in a UTQ track are also welcome to follow the course, provided there are sufficient places. Lecturers who participate in (parts of) the UTQ track will be given priority for participation. 

    Do you belong to this target audience and did you follow the Education in a Nutshell course in the years 2022 to 2024? Then we ask you to still register for this course if you want to obtain a partial certificate. You do not have to participate in the first three sessions, but work independently on the practice-oriented assignments. By registering for this course you will be added to the Brightspace environment of the course and you will have access to the assignment and various literature. You need to register for the fourth (final) session in order to be able to complete the competency domain Teaching practice.

    Working method during the course

    The course consists of three sessions of 3 hours. There is a fourth session for the completion of this competency domain for teachers in the UTQ track and for PhD candidates who want to obtain a separate partial certificate. Lecturers who do not want to obtain a partial certificate for the UTQ do not have to be present during the fourth meeting.

    During the meetings, we work interactively and there is plenty of room to exchange experiences with fellow participants. Lecturers participating in the UTQ programme or wishing to obtain a separate partial certificate work on their UTQ assignment for the competence domain Teaching practice during the meetings. The implementation of the UTQ assignment is (partly) carried out in the teaching practice of your faculty. You will receive feedback on your implementation in practice from a mentor from the faculty. 

    The course is taught in English, unless all participants speak Dutch.

    Certificate of attendance

    Lecturers who have attended all meetings and completed the assignments will receive a certificate of attendance. In order to receive the Certificate of attendance, active presence is required for 75% of the course

    Partial certificate UTQ

    Lecturers within the regular UTQ track and PhD candidates who want to obtain a  partial certificate complete the competence domain Teaching practice with the trainer during the concluding meeting of the course. When the course and the UTQ assignment have been successfully completed, the trainer gives a recommendation to award the partial certificate.  

    Your faculty is responsible for awarding the partial certificate. This partial certificate is part of a national pilot for partial certificates and is recognised by all universities in the Netherlands.

    Costs

    Participation is free of charge.

    Attendance during courses

    Due to the high demand for the courses, the number of lecturers who can participate is limited. To properly support as many lecturers as possible, we ask you to prioritise the course and attend all meetings. The first meeting is essential for taking the course. If you cannot attend this meeting, we ask you to deregister for this edition and register for another edition. In the unlikely event that you cannot attend one of the other meetings, we ask you the following:

    1. Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance with the trainer of your course.
    2. Only cancel in exceptional cases (illness, family circumstances, etc.).

    If you are absent during a meeting without cancellation, we will be forced to cancel your registration.

    You can register for the course using the form below. You will receive a confirmation of your registration. Do you want to obtain the partial certificate for the competency domain Teaching practice next to the proof of attendance? Then first check carefully whether you have the required teaching tasks during the course. During the last meeting, the completion of the competency domain takes place. You will receive a confirmation of your registration

    Please note!

    Your application does not immediately mean you can participate in the course. A selection will be made before the start of the course. Following this selection, you will receive either a confirmation of participation or a rejection for this edition. In case of rejection, we advise you to register for the next edition. UTQ candidates, lecturers 1-4 with a temporary contact (< 3 years) and PhD candidates who have started their PhD before September 2023 will take precedence during the selection process.
