The meniscus is an important structure in the knee that helps distribute loads and protect the cartilage. When the meniscus is removed, pain can develop and the risk of joint damage increases. This thesis describes the development of the first anatomically shaped artificial meniscus. Through laboratory studies and initial clinical experience, it was investigated whether this prosthesis can replicate the function of the natural meniscus. The results show that the prosthesis can largely restore the mechanical balance within the knee and may provide a solution for patients suffering from persistent pain after meniscus removal. This work contributes to the further development of a new treatment option for patients for whom existing therapies are limited.

In 2015, he joined the Orthopaedic Research Laboratory of the Radboud university medical center, where he became involved in the development of an artificial meniscus. In 2017, he joined ATRO Medical and continues to work as QA Manager and Biomechanical Engineer, advancing this technology toward clinical application.
