In recent years we have become increasingly aware of traces of the colonial past in our heritage collections. At the same time, there is discussion about what is meant by this and how we should deal with it. Heritage policy on collections from a colonial context is currently in full development. This policy and social debate revolve around core values such as diversity, polyphony, inclusion and accessibility. These core values form the starting point for making our heritage more visible, usable and sustainable.
The two-day master class Uncomfortable Heritage, in which Radboud University is collaborating with Maastricht University, explores the ways in which heritage professionals can adequately respond to current debates and changing policies regarding heritage collections from a colonial context.
