The UN Security Council is responsible for monitoring and maintaining international peace and security. Whenever there is a breach of this peace, the Security Council will convene and discuss which measures will be adopted to address the situation. However, international politics sometimes get in the way of the effectiveness of the SC. In this session, pupils will take the role of members of the Security Council and they will discuss a fictional breach of international peace and security. They will negotiate, while keeping in mind the legal framework of international peace and security and the interests of the state they represent. This way, the pupils learn about the delicate balance between law and politics.
