Thursday 4 April 2024, 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm

On 4 April, as part of the exhibition Into the Black Hole (Valkhof Museum), artist Richard Bolhuis will bring his installation Undercurrent to life in the bicycle basement of the Erasmus Building. Intuitive drawing and audiovisual installations merge this day to meditative soundscapes and live improvisation on sarangi.

Dot by dot, stripe by stripe. For seven months, artist Richard Bolhuis has been working based on his intuition on his drawing installation Spheres on the Radboud University campus and for the pop-up museum of our partner the Valkhof Museum, on Keizer Karelplein. In it, he makes connections between the very small, the micro-organisms of the mycelial network, and the very big, the galaxy. His work on the street mirrors both worlds that together mark our lives. It is an ongoing project: parts will fade with weather, wind and footsteps. Going over it more often creates a layered work.

On 4 April, Bolhuis moves from the street to the Erasmus building's bicycle basement. There, he will bring the audiovisual installation and performance Undercurrent. Before visitors' eyes, he draws intuitively and the installation merges with its surroundings. His meditative soundscapes, played on guitar amps scattered across different spaces, transform throughout. Sarangi player Vincent Swierstra improvises over the soundscapes.
