Since Trump's shock troops attacked the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021, and certainly since Putin's Russia invaded "brotherland" Ukraine on February 24, 2022, we know once again what we in the West stand for: for freedom and democracy and against oppression and authoritarianism. And yet: do we really 'know'? Do we realize what it means that our freedom and democracy are grounded in the great Revolutions of the eighteenth century, the American one of 1776 and the French one of 1789? Do we realize how we carry that revolutionary legacy with us, for better and for worse? During this course, we will address the above questions, linking past and present.
