Wood sculpting course

Discover the art of woodcarving and create your own wooden sculpture. You will learn to work with various types of wood and hand tools, with attention to technique, design, and finishing.

General

Using hand tools such as a gouge, chisel, and mallet (hammer), you will create your own wooden piece. You will learn about different types of wood and how to work with them. Attention is paid to technique, design, finishing, and ultimately the presentation of your wooden sculpture.

The process is just as important as the final result: working from memory, using your hands, and exploring. You can choose from various types of wood and logs, irregular wood, or wood blocks. These can be purchased at the studio.

Teacher

Anna Hakvoort has been giving woodcarving courses and workshops in her own studio for 20 years and also organizes sculpting holidays in France. She creates sculptures herself and exhibits regularly. For more information: www.annahakvoort.nl

This course is organized for members of PV Radboud.

  • Costs: PV members € 330 | non-members €390

Location

Het Oude Botenhuis, Oostkanaaldijk 1, 6534 AK Nijmegen (Navigate to Vossendijk 108 (towards the entrance of the student flats). There are options to park on the grounds of the student flats. At the back on the left is the Oostkanaaldijk and you will see the boathouse there).

The former boathouse of the student rowing club of Radboud University is now a sculpture center. There is the Workshop, where about 20 advanced sculptors make statues in stone and wood, and the Ateliers, where professional sculptors work and courses are given. www.hetoudebotenhuis.nl 

Anna Hakvoort has a floating studio here where she gives wood sculpting courses. A beautiful, inspiring place, where coots swim past and the occasional yacht or container ship passes by. The course will take place at this location.

Accessibility: You reach the studio via a steel staircase. Unfortunately, access is not yet adapted to people with physical disabilities.
