Language has the power to exclude, but also to include people. To achieve inclusive communication, we need to be aware of why our words matter and what our pitfalls are. In this workshop, you will learn what inclusive language is (both in English and Dutch) and how you can avoid excluding people by your language use. You will get practical tips that you can immediately apply to your own writing. Topics include gender-neutral language, othering, asymmetrical language and stereotyping, and use of visuals and metaphor. We also welcome your input on this topic by discussing the Radboud University guidelines for inclusive language, which are currently being developed.
The workshop will take place in room 1.18 of the Erasmus Building.
