Workshop Science Communication

Tuesday 3 November 2026, 3:30 pm - 5 pm
How do I talk about my research with the general public?

Please note: this workshop will be in Dutch. If you're interested in an English workshop, contact us at media [at] ru.nl (media[at]ru[dot]nl) and we'll take note for future workshops.

How do you make complex scientific research accessible to a wider audience? How do you convey the key message of your findings to people outside the university? It is more important than ever to be able to explain research to people who do not deal with it on a daily basis. But that can still be quite a challenge at times. In this workshop run by the science communication team, we’ll help you – together with some experts – to get your story on track.

Programme

  • Merijn Doggen is the editor-in-chief of Universiteit van Nederland. In his workshop, he’ll give you a glimpse into how he and his colleagues translate science for a wider audience. Universiteit van Nederland produces videos and podcasts, organises lectures and festivals, and shares stories about research on social media every day. What can you do to make your research just as engaging?
  • Laurien Crump is a researcher at the Centre for Parliamentary History at Radboud University. She researches transatlantic security issues following the Cold War and is regularly featured in the media, for example to analyse the war in Ukraine or discussions surrounding NATO. How do you translate such complex subject matter into a five-minute radio feature without ending up with an empty soundbite? Laurien shares her experiences.
  • And the Press Relations & Science Communication team will tell you what you can do to stand out to the media, and what other support is available in the field of science communication within Radboud University
