The name Radboud

Radboud (who was born around 850) was the Bishop of the Diocese of Utrecht from 899 to 917. Much of his life was devoted to study and science. He placed his knowledge at the disposal of others and became a patron of Roman Catholic higher education.

Radboud University

In 1905, Radboud became the namesake of the foundation that would lay the foundations for the establishment of a Catholic university in the Netherlands: the Saint Radboud Foundation. And in 2004 we changed our name from Catholic University Nijmegen to Radboud University.
