Current role
Assistant professor Department of Modern Languages and Cultures

Vincent Meelberg teaches the sustainable course Sustainable Creativity. This course is meant for master students.

The Sustainable Creativity course in brief …

'Sustainable Creativity examines the relationship between sustainability and creativity from two perspectives: how can we ensure we remain creative – in other words, how can we encourage creativity on an ongoing basis – and what role does creativity play in questions related to sustainability? During the course we discuss different views on creativity and how it can be encouraged. We also look at how creativity could help to resolve sustainability-related issues, giving consideration to the role that the government, businesses and consumers could play in this process.'

This course is relevant because …

'Problems relating to sustainability call for creative solutions. We need new ideas in order to address these problems; simply continuing to follow the old, familiar path is not a viable option.'

One concrete assignment students will do is …

'Developing a creative multimedia project in which a topic or problem linked to the relationship between sustainability and creativity is addressed in an original and challenging way.'

Engaging with sustainability is important …

'Because we need to be aware that we are only borrowing the planet and its resources from future generations and we have to make sure the world we pass on to them is and will remain liveable.'
