Dies Natalis 2026

The Dies Natalis on 21 May 2025 is a gathering for students, employees and relations in honour of the anniversary of the opening of the university, 103 years ago.

The programme

The Dies Natalis traditionally begins with a celebration in the Student Church (12:00–13:00), followed by a sandwich lunch. From 15:00, the academic session takes place in the Aula, followed by a reception.

During the session, the Dies address, titled ‘Ownership in a Connected University’, will be delivered by ecologist Prof. Dr Hans de Kroon, known for his work on flourishing dikes in the Ooijpolder. In line with the Connected for Impact strategy, he will reflect on the upcoming annual theme, ‘connecting’, exploring how we link the ecological system of science, the region around us and a liveable world of tomorrow—and what role each of us can play in this.

The University Medal and Student Award will also be presented, and the programme includes music by alumnus and Four Days Marches song writer Paul de Graaf.
