Opening Academic Year 2024 - 2025: Truth
The Opening of the Academic Year is a gathering for all staff and students aimed at providing inspiration for the start of the new academic year. This year's programme is inspired by the theme of 'truth'.
The programme
During the Opening of the Academic Year, staff and students of Radboud University look ahead to the new year. Besides various contributions inspired by the theme of 'truth', the Study Award, the University Medal and the Team Science Award will be awarded.
University Medal for Ellen Venderbosch
Ellen's career began in 1990. Her roles at Radboud University included personal assistant to the Rector, Registrar of the Executive Board, and secretary of many work groups and committees, including the Academic Integrity Committee. She was head of the General & Legal Affairs department for almost a decade, was Manager of Operations at Radboud Services for two years, and in 2019, she moved to the Faculty of Arts, where she has since been Board Secretary.
Not only is Ellen an extremely important employee for administrators, younger colleagues also see her as a shining example, source of inspiration, and mentor. She combines her broad knowledge of academic affairs with a strong sense of humanity, humour, and commitment to the University. She also has a keen eye for upcoming talent.
Student speaker Navete van Andel Bertomeu
Navete is studying psychology and has just finished her bachelor's degree. Besides her studies, she is active as a circus teacher, among other things.
Navete has an international background. Until she was 12, she lived in Spain, after which she lived with her Dutch father, Spanish mother and little sister in Amersfoort for three years. Then they returned to Spain.
Because of the Dutch educational culture that suited her, Navete wanted to return to the Netherlands to study. Thanks to a tip-off from a friend in Amersfoort, she chose Radboud University.
Alumnus and poet Wout Waanders
Writer, performer and live poet Wout Waanders continuously knows how to surprise people with words and forms of presentation. In honour of 100 years of Radboud University, he collected the most beautiful sentences from a hundred Nijmegen dissertations - one from each year of the university's existence - and made poems about them. With 'Parkplan', he won the 2021 C. Buddingh Prize for the best debut in Dutch-language poetry.
He is also part of BOYBAND, the literary boy band. Wout studied Dutch Language and Culture and Communication and Information Studies at Radboud University and was campus poet in the 2008/2009 academic year.
Student and pianist Joos Munneke
Joos Munneke is pursuing a master's degree in Mathematics and participates in the Radboud Honours Academy as a top talent in the arts. In between his bachelor and master studies, he studied piano at Utrecht Conservatory. There, he learned how to use his instrument as an extension of himself.
His passion for philosophy, mathematics, meditation and broad interest in the world provide creative inspiration for his compositions, making his music a reflection of himself. Three main pillars are always present in his music: sound, groove and tranquillity.
