Additional measures due to persistent heat June 2026

Due to the prolonged heatwave, the KNMI has issued a Code Orange warning from Wednesday 24 June 2026. Radboud University is doing everything it can to ensure that the indoor climate in all campus buildings remains as comfortable and safe as possible for everyone.

Temperatures will be higher than usual, so it is important to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. We will continue to follow the situation closely, and monitor the conditions in the buildings. We will take additional measures if necessary. In that case, further updates will follow.

Measures regarding exams

The situation in the exam buildings is being monitored particularly closely. Measures have already been put in place in the Comenius Building.

Based on the current weather forecast, all exams will go ahead as planned.

We advise students to drink plenty of water. During exams, students are permitted to use a resealable cup or bottle.

General advice for hot weather conditions

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you are not thirsty.
  • Keep your working environment cool with these tips, or work from home in consultation with your line manager.
  • Avoid direct sunlight. Stay in the shade as much as possible, especially between 12:00 and 18:00.
  • Limit strenuous activity, especially during the hottest hours of the day
  • Look after yourself and each other. Are you experiencing dizziness, a headache, nausea or a rapid heartbeat? If so, take immediate action. If in doubt, contact a first-aid officer.
  • Also follow the heatwave advice from the KNMI and the RIVM.

In case of emergency

In the event of an emergency on campus, always call the emergency number 024 36 5 55 55 first. Calling this number ensures that emergency services respond more quickly and in a better-coordinated manner than if you call 112. The emergency number is available 24/7.

Update Wednesday 24 June, 19:30

It is hot on campus. Very hot. We understand that this may be uncomfortable. Fortunately, the situation is currently under control. We are continuing to closely monitor conditions in the buildings.

For now, teaching, exams and other activities can, in principle, continue as planned. However, some activities may be moved, postponed or cancelled. Please keep an eye out for any changes to your scheduled activities.

It has now been decided to cancel all outdoor sports activities until at least this coming Friday evening. More information can be found in this news item.

Make sure you bring enough water with you and keep drinking regularly. You can refill your bottle in many places across campus. Seek out cooler areas where you can and look after yourself and one another. Hang in there!
