Pijls’s research focuses on several fields: financial law, corporate law, liability and compensation law, and Empirical Legal Studies. He hopes to continue this multidisciplinary approach at Radboud University. Trained as a financial econometrician, Pijls also feels at home in the world of mathematics and statistics. With this broad research profile, he hopes to make an important contribution to comparative and multidisciplinary research within the Financial Law Institute at the Faculty of Law.
In the next few years, Pijls will be conducting research on the further development of European financial regulatory law. “Key areas I will focus on are the European Capital Markets Union, the Single Resolution Mechanism, Sustainable Finance and ESG and the regulation of technological developments in the financial sector,” Pijls has said. He will also be teaching in the field of European financial regulatory law, amongst others the English-language Master's course European Financial Law.
About Arnoud Pijls
Pijls studied Financial Econometrics at Erasmus University Rotterdam, obtaining his Master's degree in 2005. He obtained his Master's degree in Financial Law from Erasmus School of Law in 2006, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Law in 2007. He then worked for law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek for a number of years, in combination with an appointment as a researcher at Erasmus School of Law. In 2018, he obtained his PhD cum laude with the dissertation entitled ‘Misleading Reports on Stock Markets. Issues of Causation and Damages'.
After his PhD defence, Pijls remained at Erasmus School of Law - first as Assistant Professor and later as Associate Professor. Since 2022, he has been working as advisor in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice of law firm Clifford Chance.
Pijls is currently also a member of the Supervisory Boards of the Yuverta foundation, an institution for green-blue education (pre-vocational and vocational secondary education), and of Stichting Christelijk Onderwijs Haaglanden, a primary education institution in the The Hague region. In addition, the new professor is active as an editor for Tijdschrift voor Vennootschapsrecht, Rechtspersonenrecht en Ondernemingsbestuur, and involved as a regular contributor to the tijdschrift Ondernemingsrecht.
