ASCON wins NIST lightweight crypto competition

Christoph Dobraunig contributed to the design of ASCON while he was a visiting postdoctoral researcher at the Digital Security group of Radboud University. ASCON will be published as a NIST standard later in 2023.

The lightweight cryptographic algorithms are designed to protect communications of low-resource devices such as Internet of Things (IoT), medical implants, sensors and actuators.

We congratulate Christoph Dobraunig, Maria Eichlseder, Florian Mendel and Martin Schläffer for winning the NIST lightweight cryptography competition!
