Carolien van Ham and fellow political scientists hand over Oxford Handbook of Dutch Politics to prime minister

On Tuesday 19 November, Carolien van Ham, Paul ‘t Hart, Sarah de Lange, Tom Louwerse had the honour of presenting the Oxford Handbook of Dutch Politics to Prime Minister Dick Schoof. This volume, on which political scientists, public administration experts and other scholars from all over the Netherlands collaborated, offers a long-term perspective on the state of Dutch politics.

The reason for the volume is that Dutch politics has long been a paragon of stability. Think, for instance, of our well-organised party system until, say, the last decade. At the same time, there have also been changes and significant shifts. Society has changed and this is reflected in, among other things, how votes are cast and policy is made in the Netherlands.

Several Radboud scholars collaborated on the volume. Carolien van Ham is one of the four editors and, together with Jacques Thomassen, wrote the chapter on political trust and legitimacy. In addition, there are contributions by Paul Bovend'eert (the Dutch monarchy), Reinout van der Veer (the Netherlands and the European Union), Erika van Elsas (public opinion), Andrej Zaslove (populism), Niels Spierings (descriptive representation), Marlies Honingh and Lars Stevenson (education policy), Bertjan Verbeek (foreign policy), and Kristof Jacobs (democratic renewal).

The public presentation of the book will take place on 10 December in The Hague. Are you a professional interested in the content of the book? Then register now via this link.
