Change to summer closure period in 2026

The 2026 summer closure will be moved to weeks 30 to 32, with week 29 being cancelled. The reason for this change is that the faculties have requested that the summer closure coincide with the Four Days Marches week and end one week before the introduction week. Because the Four Days Marches week falls in a different week this year, the closure will last three weeks instead of four.

Buildings open in the centre of the campus

The summer closure coincides with the period of reduced teaching and study activity in the academic calendar. During the closure period, a limited number of buildings in the centre of the campus will remain open: the Elinor Ostrom Building, the Gymnasion and the University Library. Various facilities are available in this central area, allowing staff and students to continue working and studying. Outside the city centre, the Huygens building will remain the only faculty building open.

Buildings that are closing

The summer closure in weeks 30 to 32 (20 July to 9 August) applies to the following buildings:

  • Erasmus Building
  • Berchmanianum
  • Grotius Building
  • Thomas van Aquinostraat 1
  • Maria Montessori Building
(the laboratory environment on the ground floor and first floor will remain accessible for research purposes, subject to authorisation.I

In the coming period, customised solutions for various users of the buildings that are closing will be further inventoried and prepared. More information about the study and work areas that will remain open, available facilities and other information will follow later.

Executive Board decision on principle

The principle – summer closure starting at the same time as the Four Days Marches week until one week before the start of the introduction – will also be used as a starting point for future years. A proposal for this is ready and will take effect on 1 October 2026, following the Executive Board's decision.
