The amphitheatre will be located next to the Grotius Building on Comeniuslaan and should become a lively meeting place for students, staff and visitors of the university. Besides being used as an outdoor lecture hall, the theatre can also be reserved for a variety of meetings and cultural activities. In this way, it contributes to the dynamics and creativity on the Radboud campus.

Construction of amphitheatre at Grotius Building begins
To mark the 100th anniversary of Radboud University and the Faculty of Law in 2023, the Stichting Rechtenalumni Nijmegen (Nijmegen Law Alumni Foundation) has offered the campus a unique gift: an amphitheatre that will serve as an inspiring outdoor space for lectures, events and meetings. Construction will start on Monday 4 November and the amphitheatre is expected to open in January 2025.

Design
Architectural firm Benthem Crouwel, which also designed the Grotius building, produced the design for the amphitheatre. It is designed to be multifunctional. Open to everyone visiting the campus, it will be a sustainable addition to the campus where education and community go hand in hand.
Sustainability
Sustainability is a high priority at Radboud University, also in constructing the amphitheatre. A concrete crusher is used to build the theatre, which reuses old concrete. In addition, the amphitheatre is modularly designed, which means it can easily be moved or reused in the future.
