Contribute to sustainability on campus as a student

Are you a student with a heart for sustainability? Then Radboud University is the right place for you. Take action, within your study programme or own research, or create your own team to work on sustainability. We have listed a few initiatives for you.

Realize Your Idea

An initiative to encourage ideas for making the campus more sustainable, and which help you get active yourself. One example is the Give Away Cabinet, a collection point set up this year for surplus goods that you can drop off – or buy – at the Gift Shop. On special weekends, we organise market days for buying and selling, complete with music and catering. Another ongoing project is ‘alternative to a bouquet of flowers’, which looks for alternatives to the numerous bouquets handed out on campus.

Living Lab

Are you a student looking to have a sustainable impact with your own research? You can do so at the Living Lab, a learning environment in which you can link your own research to sustainability issues being explored by lecturers and staff members of Radboud University and the Radboudumc. The format is adjusted to match the study phase you are in, such as an internship, short- and long-term assignments, course assignments, or Bachelor's and Master's theses. For example, the Living Lab is currently working on commuting, sustainable procurement, reducing harmful substances in laboratories, or – also in the medical sector – making healthcare processes more sustainable.

Canopy

A community launched in late 2023 that organises monthly drinks for Nijmegen students who are passionate about sustainability. The idea is to get together to share sustainable ideas and ambitions, allowing you to decide for yourself how active you want to become. Via the WhatsApp group, you can stay in touch with the community and get tips on interesting articles, events, documentaries, and more. One of the plans, starting from 2024, is to regularly screen films on sustainability.
