DJ Joost van Bellen is an icon. His impressive career of more than 35 years is illustrated by a common thread: his love of nightlife and counterculture, the urge to push boundaries, entertain audiences and create lasting memories. As self-proclaimed disco dinosaur, he is known for his world-class sets at festivals such as Lowlands, Milkshake, Pukkelpop, Down the Rabbit Hole and more. In the 1980s, Van Bellen laid the foundation for Dutch club culture, organizing psychedelic garage punk nights in Amsterdam's squat scene and house music events at Club RoXY. In the years that followed, he became one of the leading proponents of UK garage with Speedfreax and helped launch the electro scene with his legendary RAUW nights.
His extensive knowledge of music and love for virtually every genre make Joost a versatile jack-of-all-trades: punk, 1970s disco, country & western and gritty rock 'n roll.
Van Bellen has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of Dutch Pop Music and has a trophy cabinet full of awards from far and wide, including the Gouden Kabouter for best live stream of 2020 - the year of the pandemic.
De Volkskrant 2020: ‘Van Bellen is a walking cultural asset. He was at the cradle of house music in the Netherlands.’
