The building has been vacant for some time and is being demolished to make way for a grass-covered area (temporary green space). The site remains available as a development site for a future use on the campus. No concrete plans have yet been finalised for this.
Sustainable demolition
Sustainability is central to the demolition process. Where possible, materials generated during the process are reused or recycled to a high standard, so that valuable raw materials are preserved and the environmental impact is minimised as much as possible
Minimising disruption
Whilst the works are in progress, Radboud University is doing everything it can to minimise disruption to the local area. Measures have been put in place to reduce noise, dust and traffic disruption. As the Heyendael childcare centre is situated right next to the demolition site, additional safety measures have been agreed upon and some of the works will be carried out in phases.
