Discussion meeting research integrity under pressure with Naomi Ellemers and Willem Halffman

How to deal with disagreement about integrity, when power differentials or dependencies play a role? During the annual discussion meeting of Radboud University on research integrity on September 22, 2022 we will talk about this. All staff and students of Radboud University and Radboudumc are welcome to participate in this meeting and share their views.

The theme of this year's meeting is Research integrity under pressure – the role of power and dependencies. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss situations in which scientific integrity can be under pressure, for example because of power differences or hierarchical relationships between scientists. How to deal with such situations, how to discuss them and whom to turn to for advice or help?

Speakers at the meeting are Prof. Dr. Naomi Ellemers (Utrecht University) and Dr. Willem Halffman (Radboud University). In her contribution, Ellemers will share insights from psychological research into the influence of power differentials on research integrity. She will also discuss the recently published KNAW advisory report on social safety, which was drawn up by a committee which she chaired. In his contribution, Halffman will talk about the factors that influence whether or not integrity issues are reported. Subsequently, an interactive discussion with a panel and the attendees will take place on a number of concrete situations that scientists can find themselves in.

The meeting will take place on September 22 from 2 pm to 4 pm, followed by a drink. The event will be in English.

Registration for the meeting is required and can be done via this link.
