Education issue was looking for business partner

NOLAI is the national education lab for educational AI in Dutch primary, secondary and special education. NOLAI works on the responsible use of AI, in and with practice. We always work on the basis of an issue presented to us from education, which forms the basis of a co-creation project. In such a project, education, science and corporate life work together to tackle a problem by designing, developing and validating a prototype. Are you the business partner in one of our new projects?

The topics for which we were seeking a corporate partner are:

  • Feedback on writing skills for beginning learners
  • Customisation for gifted learners
  • Support materials for vocabulary lessons

Seeking new corporate partners

Registration is closed.

Issue 1: Providing feedback on writing skills

The Ambion Foundation and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences are working together to provide effective feedback on the writing of beginner students. This if often a major challenge for teachers. There is now a plan for prototype PenMentor.

This smart technology detects patterns in students’ writing skills, providing insight into trends across the entire class. Based on the analyses, teachers can more easily form groups of students who need the same instructions, enabling tailor-made support.

Issue 2: Gifted students

Beatrix College and Scientific Expertise Centre RATiO are investigating how smart technology can connect better to the educational needs of gifted students. Due to time constraints, it is difficult for teachers to offer sufficient differentiation for these students. As a result, students feel too free and lack support.

The solution using smart technology must focus on enriching the curriculum for these students, based on their student profile and learning goals. Students should be given an overview of their learning pathway and schedule and should feel empowered in their own autonomy, without being left to their own devices. The application has to support the teacher in offering tailor-made learning within the standard curriculum.

Issue 3: Support materials for vocabulary lessons

Koninklijke Auris Groep and the University of Twente are working together to generate personalised materials to support vocabulary lessons. This often costs teachers a lot of time, especially in special education. A basic prototype has been developed, and a wish list for further development based on practical experience is also ready.

The solution, Fabula, generates stories at the desired language level that match the pupil’s experience based on chosen themes and target words. It also generates meaningful picture cards an images. This creates personalised learning materials that strengthen motivation and reading enjoyment. This tool supports teachers and speech therapists in providing efficient, tailor-made solutions.
