Executive Board intends to adopt recommendations of the Partnerships Advisory Committee

Today, the Executive Board of Radboud University is discussing its proposed decision regarding partnerships with two Israeli universities and a consideration framework for partnerships with institutions in conflict zones.

The Executive Board intends to adopt the recommendations of the Partnerships Advisory Committee. The discussion will be followed by a recommendation from the participational bodies (UGV), after which the Executive Board will take a final decision, expected later this week.

The Executive Board intends to adopt the recommendations to suspend the implementation of the institution-wide partnerships with the universities concerned. The Executive Board accredited the committee's analysis of the human rights situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories, as well as its conclusions on Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University.

The Executive Board held confidential discussions with directors of both universities in addition to discussions with a large number of stakeholders inside and outside the university. This dialogue did not lead the Executive Board to a different assessment from that of the committee's recommendation. When the conditions as formulated by the committee are met, collaboration will be possible at institutional level. Within that framework, the Executive Board is open to dialogue with the relevant universities.

The Executive Board has agreed with the faculties at Radboud University that they will also suspend the implementation of bilateral partnerships similar to the institution-wide MoUs with Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University. Such agreements only exist at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, i.e. with Tel Aviv University.

During this suspension, no new bilateral collaborations similar to institution-wide MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) or extensions thereof will be entered into with the universities concerned.

Individual scholars make their own consideration about collaborations for their own work. In this respect, they may seek advice from their supervisor or dean. Deans may also seek advice from the Partnerships Advisory Committee.

The Executive Board is very grateful to the committee for its work and asks the committee to (also) focus on institution-wide partnerships with universities located in countries/conflict zones other than in Israel and the Palestinian territories. Furthermore - in line with what the committee itself writes - an addition to the consideration framework is expected in the coming period regarding collaborations at individual level, i.e. collaborations between individual academics. Employees can use this as a guide for their own decision-making.
