Explanation from the Faculty Board on measures concerning FNWI buildings

The Faculty Board understands that the measures concerning access to the buildings have a significant impact on students and staff. We would like to explain how these measures were established.

On 13 May, the opening hours and access to several faculty buildings were adjusted following the pro-Palestine protest at the back of the Huygens building. The safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our top priority in this decision-making process.

These measures are established as follows. A university crisis management team (CMT), in consultation with parties including the city of Nijmegen, assesses risks and makes decisions regarding the accessibility of faculty buildings. This CMT meets daily to decide on the measures to be taken.

This CMT coordinates proposed decisions with the faculty's Housing and Logistics department and the Faculty Board. In this process, we, as the Faculty Board, have highlighted the disruption and inconvenience these measures cause.

The decision to restrict access to the Huygens building to the main entrance only was made to keep as many wings within the building open as possible. We are constantly reviewing with all departments which wings can be made accessible without requiring card access.

The current measures will remain in effect until after the weekend. The situation will be reassessed on Monday morning. Please follow the page Adjusted opening hours and access to FNWI buildings for the latest updates.
