Fruitful symposium on Suriname and Curacao slave registers

On Thursday 16 March the Historical Database Suriname Curacao (HDSC) research group invited researchers and archivists to the "Lives in Slavery" symposium in Nijmegen to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the recently published Suriname and Curacao slave register databases.

More than 40 colleagues participated in Nijmegen and roughly 30 participants joined online. The symposium featured a wide range of presentations on the life courses of (formerly) enslaved and was characterized by a welcoming atmosphere and many fruitful discussions. The programme can be found in the attachment. We are already looking forward to organizing an entire conference on Registration and Population in the Colonies in the end of 2024.
