Geert Corstens delivers Van der Grinten lecture after receiving honorary doctorate

This year's Van der Grinten Lecture took place on Thursday 19 October 2023 during Radboud University's festive lustrum week. This year's Van der Grinten Lecture was delivered by the brand-new honorary doctor Prof Geert Corstens. He was professor of criminal law and procedure at Nijmegen for thirteen years. In 2008, Corstens was appointed President of the Supreme Court.

Due to the 100th anniversary of Radboud University, seven
honorary doctorates were awarded this year. Prof Geert Corstens received an honorary doctorate on behalf of the law faculty and was therefore invited to deliver the annual Van der Grinten Lecture. The title of the lecture was 'The rule of law'. Moreover, prior to the lecture, a congress was held with the theme 'The judge in the rule of law'. During this congress, speakers included Marc Bossuyt (emeritus president of the Constitutional Court), Tamara Trotman (Supreme Court justice) and Jonathan Soeharno (lawyer and Professor of Legal Practice and Philosophy of the University of Amsterdam).

In the Van der Grinten Lecture, the Nijmegen law faculty annually invites a well-known speaker. This speaker gives an interesting lecture which is free of charge for alumni, students and staff of the faculty.
