Congres "Making Masculinities. Historical Perspectives"

GSV Excalibur student society is hosting a congress on 'masculinity in historical perspective'

On Tuesday 14 April, the annual conference of the GSV Excalibur Study Association and the historical journal Ex Tempore will take place on the Radboud University campus. This year's theme is masculinity. The programme consists of lectures that explore masculinity from various historical perspectives.

Boys' boarding schools in Nijmegen

The KDC will be contributing to the event with a lecture by our KDC colleague Dr Marieke Smulders. She will discuss Catholic boys’ culture as it was experienced at three elite boarding schools in Nijmegen: Canisius College, Dominicus College and Nebo, during the 1920s–1950s. Here, priests formed a Catholic male elite. The pupils, boys between twelve and eighteen, were prepared for a future in which they would occupy influential positions in society through a tried-and-tested combination of grammar school-level humanities education, daily religious observances and a carefully curated recreational programme.

You can find more information about the congress and how to register in the Radboud Agenda.
