This edition focuses in particular on the completion of the Bibliography of Catholic Dutch Periodicals (BKNP). Over a period of fifty years, more than 6,000 Catholic magazines, journals and newspapers were tracked down, researched and described. In an in-depth interview, bibliographer and editor-in-chief Otto S. Lankhorst looks back on this impressive life’s work.
In addition, we focus on the social significance of heritage, inspired by the European Treaty of Faro. This is explained in more detail by using the archives from the Byzantine community in the Netherlands, which the KDC has received over the past three years, as an example.
Two recent donations of a total of 4,000 pilgrimage medals and pennants demonstrate how seemingly small objects tell great stories about the experience of Catholic culture and the importance of the enthusiast-collector.
Furthermore, six history students present the results of their initial research into the KDC collections, with contributions on democratisation at universities and development cooperation.
Finally, Hub Crijns reconstructs the history behind the creation of the iconic portrait of social leader Alphons Ariëns, based on a sketch by Jan Toorop.
