It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of professor of feminist and post-colonial theology Lieve Troch. She passed away in Breda on 17 December at the age of 75. Far ahead of her time, Troch's work connected themes of liberation, gender, class, culture and religion in a theological and post-colonial framework.
After studying theology and criminology in Leuven, having fulfilled key roles at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre Breda, she became a lecturer in feminist theology at the Hogeschool, later university, for Theology and Pastoral Care in Heerlen. After completing a PhD at Tilburg University and a merger between the University for Theology and Pastoral Care and the Faculty of Theology at Radboud University, she ended up in Nijmegen, where she remained until her retirement in 2014.
From 1998 onward, Troch also served as professor of feminist theology at UMESP, the Universidade Metodista de São Paulo in Brazil, where, as at Nijmegen, she is remembered as an inspiring mentor, sharp and analytical thinker and passionate advocate of justice and resistance.
Our thoughts are with her relatives, former colleagues and students.
