Kleefse Waard Industrial Park wants pilot with NIFTI system for floating transport

Floating transport by magnetism is what the NIFTI (National Individual Floating Transport Infrastructure) project is all about. Researchers at Radboud University have been working on that dream for several years. That dream has come a little closer again, now that it was announced yesterday during the Innovate Meetup in Nijmegen that there are plans for the first NIFTI pilot, at Industriepark Kleefse Waard (IPKW) in Arnhem.

IPKW is a 90-hectare site that offers a sustainable working environment for companies and institutions working on the energy transition and circular economy. 'IPKW is one of the most sustainable business campuses in the Netherlands. Many innovations in the field of clean mobility are taking place here,' says facility manager Mariëlle Nijholt. 'There are the necessary distances between the various work locations on our park. That is why there is still car traffic. The pilot examines whether this new mode of transport is a good alternative.'

The NIFTI system will eventually be wheelchair accessible and suitable for groups of event visitors. Thus the transport system contributes to social inclusiveness and less CO2 emissions. 'This not only improves safety, but also reduces our ecological footprint,' says Mariëlle Nijholt.
