Long live euphoria!

Dancing, singing, stamping to the music: does that urge come from ourselves? Or does music do this to us? On techno raves, dance parties and rock concerts, we seem to lose control. When we surrender to the music and the masses, the boundaries of our self turn porous. And this is not only pleasant. Euphoria, scholar of cultural studies Roel Smeets and philosopher Linde van Schuppen claim, is healthy, essential and even rebellious.
