Manouk: Get moving!

Sufficient exercise and relaxation are important for both your physical health and your mental well-being. In addition, more and more scientific research shows that exercise has a positive influence on study and work success and the prevention of absenteeism due to illness. People who are active, feel and perform better.

Manouk

Manouk is a Radboud Sport & Culture instructor and a physiotherapist. In this edition of 'Get moving!' she gives her view on the importance of sufficient exercise.

“The stronger and fitter you are, the longer your body will last in a day. Now and in your future.”

"During my training as a Dance Teacher at the ArtEZ Dance Academy, I became interested in anatomy and the way people move. After completing that training, I decided to also become a physiotherapist. Nowadays I combine both: four days a week I work as a physiotherapist and one day a week I am an instructor at Radboud Sport & Culture."

For now

"As an instructor, I find pleasure in exercise very important. As a physiotherapist, in addition to pleasure, I think it is important that people exercise sufficiently and in the right way. What you do throughout the day largely determines how you feel physically. Your body adapts to what you do. If you sit a lot, there is a good chance that you will become stiff and that you will strain your body incorrectly. This increases the risk of injuries and health problems. Regular exercise keeps you fitter and stimulates the blood circulation. This causes more oxygen to flow through your body, which keeps your brain more active, your muscles more flexible and contributes to better tissue recovery. Through sports and exercise you also develop more muscle mass, which you need to protect your bones and joints.”

And for the future

"In short, sufficient exercise is important for, among other, strength, stability, fitness, mobility, vitality, balance and flexibility. The stronger and fitter you are, the longer your body will last in a day. Now and in your future! If you exercise enough, everyday things remain easier. About 2.5 hours a week of moderately intensive exercise supplemented with muscle and bone strengthening activities twice a week, are sufficient to stay fit. At Radboud Sport & Culture we have more than 80 different activities that can help you with this. Just take a look at what suits you, and I look forward to seeing you at the Gymnasion soon!"
