The Latin School at the St. Stevenskerkhof was built around 1544. This makes it the oldest school building in Nijmegen. Radboud University will occupy it until January 2026. Literally and figuratively, the university will come to the people: right in the center of Nijmegen, this temporary Radboud location will be a place where a broad public can come into contact with the university.
Starting in September
What will happen in the Latin School has not yet been decided. This is a conscious choice: there is room here for encounters and new collaborations with residents, businesses and organizations from the city.
A Career Lab for alumni will start in September, where anyone who has ever graduated from Radboud University can go with questions about their career. And Radboud Reflects will also start a book club on chance at this location in September.
Science for and by everyone
In the longer term, Radboud University would like to develop plans in the Latin School together with residents, businesses and organizations in the city. Think, for example, of research in which citizens and researchers work together to collect data (citizen science). Or questions from residents that can be sorted out by students as part of their education. And, of course, a lecture (series) for a wide audience. There is also room for projects in which artists, scientists and residents combine their powers of thought and imagination.
Proposals aimed at making science accessible to as many people as possible are welcome. If you have a good idea as a resident or organization, or as a scientist or student, please contact coordinator Martijn Stevens at latijnseschool [at] ru.nl (latijnseschool[at]ru[dot]nl.)
