The nomination
Doctor Michelle van Tongerloo graduated in General Medicine from Radboud University in 2012 and is a general practitioner and street doctor in the Paulus Church in Rotterdam. She also has her own foundation to help people who cannot find help in the usual aid system. In addition, she is a columnist, benefactor and activist. In her work, she encounters ethical dilemmas and numerous situations arising from metropolitan issues. She lectures and writes about these dilemmas and situations. Anyone who reads her publications quickly understands: for this profession you have to stand firm. Her nomination praises her exceptional commitment to the difficult target groups in the Netherlands and also in the Dutch Caribbean.
The Radboud Alumni Award
With this award, Radboud University turns the spotlight on alumni. After all, they are the epitome of what you can achieve with an education at Radboud University. By putting them in the spotlight during the election as Radboud Alumnus of the Year, the university wants to encourage pride and connection. All students, employees and alumni could nominate their favorite alumnus for this award, after which a jury made a selection of ten nominees. In the past weeks, the general public voted for these ten alumni, where Michelle van Tongerloo emerged as the winner.
