There will eventually be a lactation room available in almost every building on campus. The design of each room will focus on convenience and comfort. Each room will offer you a safe and peaceful place where you can express milk; the rooms will also be easy to locate, and will be able to be booked in advance.
User-friendly design
The new design and facilities will be adapted to satisfy the needs of users. The temperature will be comfortable and the room’s atmosphere will be warm and peaceful.
Once the modifications have been carried out, each of the lactation rooms will be outfitted with:
- A comfortable chair;
- A pantry that has a refrigerator with a freezer compartment;
- A table for any necessary items;
- A power point that is within easy reach;
- A door that can be locked from the inside.
Newly designed lactation room to be used as a pilot location
Collaboration with the users has resulted in the realisation of their initial wishes and needs, which have been incorporated into a newly designed lactation room that is located in the Erasmus building. Room 02.01A has been designed as a pilot location. Everyone is welcome to view the new lactation room on 13 and 14 November. From 15 November onwards, users are welcome to test the room and share their experience!
Next year, the other lactation rooms on campus will be modified on the basis of the same principles. During the refurbishment, users will be informed on site about the period during which the lactation room will be unavailable and where the nearest available lactation room can be found.
Booking a lactation room
Use of a lactation room requires a booking. In an effort to improve accessibility and availability, the lactation rooms will be incorporated into the booking system. Users will be able to book a lactation room via the Self-Service System. Bookings may be made in advance but it will also be possible to book an available room at the last minute. This will avoid unnecessary waiting time until the lactation room is available, and you will be able to use it during the time slot that you have booked. The lactation rooms may only be used for expressing milk.
Once the physical layout of a lactation room has been modified, the room will be incorporated into the booking system. Until then, users will continue to use and/or book a lactation room as they have always done.
Lactation rooms, locations and booking
The expansion and refurbishment of the lactation rooms is an initiative within the strategic theme Diversity, equality and inclusion.
