Movie: Dead Poets Society

On Thursday 22 January, you can watch Dead Poets Society in Theatre Hall C. This Oscar-winning film tells the story of a new English teacher who, against strict rules, tries to convey his passion for poetry to the students of an elite boarding school.

At Welton boarding school, under the motto 'tradition, honour, discipline, excellence, boys are trained to be admitted to a leading university. The English teacher retired the previous semester and is succeeded by John Keating, played by Robin Williams. Keating is also a former student of Welton and, unlike the rest of the teachers, challenges his students to become free thinkers and not allow themselves to be dictated to by their teachers or parents. Like Keating in his day, some boys start the Dead Poets Society, a club for which they read and write poems, but also play music and have fun. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with this.
