Collaboration between education, science, and companies is central to NOLAI. The unique co-creation approach will be continued with this grant by means of co-implementation. That means that education and science will intensify their collaboration with innovative companies.
Co-implementation programme
This second investment by the National Growth Fund makes it possible to turn the prototypes that NOLAI develops in co-creation into products that contribute to the quality of Dutch education. These products make use of smart technology in a relevant way. As a consequence of their preparatory phase, they align with the questions and needs of education: very interesting for companies.
This programme starts with a pilot project together with Lucas Onderwijs and Snappet. Together with scientists, we will expand the adaptive learning environment of Snappet with so-called ‘curriculum-adaptiviteit’. This gives teachers more insight into their students’ progress with the help of predictive analyses and machine learning. The collaboration between AI and teacher is crucial for a good implementation, and that is why this pilot pays a lot of attention to the supporting and guiding teachers.
Company development programme
The investment furthermore provides the opportunity to establish a development programme for Dutch startups and scale-ups in the education sector. This will first and foremost happen in collaboration with Dutch EdTech, OostNL, Mercator Launch, Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, Brightlands Smart Services Campus and EdTech Station.
This programme will ensure that companies in the education sector will gain better access to a network of schools, knowledge, and expertise. They will also get support to develop further and to fortify their competitive position, which will again contribute to the quality of Dutch education.
Scientific programme
Good digital educational resources and tools and smart technologies form an important requirement to maintain the quality of education and to improve it. It remains important to take the opportunities that AI provides, and to counteract its risks. That is why NOLAI’s scientific programme is complemented by research into the innovation and changes that are necessary within education in order to enable the sustainable implementation of AI. That is how NOLAI can develop, apply, and share new knowledge.
