New action against budget cuts: 10 June

Update: the nationwide action is cancelled due to a planned NS-strike

A nationwide action against budget cuts in education has been announced for Tuesday 10 June on de Dam in Amsterdam. Radboud University supports the action organised by FNV, AOb, WOinAction and the student unions. Anyone who wants to participate will be given the opportunity to do so.

"The government continues with the huge budget cuts in higher education. This is wrong and unwise. The demolition of education, means demolition of our society," said president of the executive board Alexandra van Huffelen. "With these cuts, the government is cutting into the foundation of our future generations and discouraging necessary innovation. On top of the budget cuts already instituted, the cabinet now wants to cut even more. Unbelievable. It is vital that we join the 10 June action to show that we think this is a very bad idea."

What is important in this regard?

As with all previous actions against the budget cuts in education, Radboud University is facilitating student and staff participation. In doing so, please note:

  • Attendance is not required for students on 10 June, except for exams, patient care and compulsory practicals that cannot be made up or rescheduled (students can consult their lecturer about this).
  • In case of absence, students should inform their lecturers in advance
  • Making up the missing material is the student's responsibility.
  • Employees who wish to participate in the demonstration agree this with their manager. Employees do not have to take a day off or special leave to do so. Those who still want to register something can do so with: 'special leave'.
  • Lecturers who demonstrate ensure that students do get all the material covered within the duration of a course.
  • Scheduled exams go ahead. Employees who are unable to take part in the demonstration because of this, will find a solution in consultation with their manager;
  • Employees and students must arrange their own transport to Amsterdam. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.

For future generations too

On 10 June, the ‘Voorjaarsnota’ (in Dutch) will be discussed, which recently indicated that further cuts will be made to education. Particularly vulnerable pupils and secondary school pupils will be affected. For those future generations too, we gather in Amsterdam on 10 June.

In Radboud-red to Amsterdam
