New arts policy at Radboud University and Radboudumc

Since 1 January, Radboud University and Radboudumc have taken a new direction with their arts policy, which they previously formulated jointly. Both organisations now pursue their own arts policy, with special attention to their own target groups and objectives.

Radboud University will link its focus on visual art more closely to education, research and impact. It will focus on initiatives at the intersection of art, science and society, collaboration with artists from different backgrounds, and participation by staff and students. In addition, the physical art collection on campus, like the university's other collections, will be made available to researchers, students and other interested parties.

After a thorough exploration, Radboudumc is focusing on Art Residency. This choice entails a broadening and deepening of the art policy that has been in place since 2014. Artists are invited to work for a longer period within and with the organisation, with or without a predetermined question. This will lead to art becoming an integral and even more sustainable part of the organisation. The process and results of the Art Residency will be shared internally and externally in various ways. Management, development and presentation of the art collection will continue to be part of this programme.

The joint art policy of Radboudumc and Radboud University was initiated, coordinated and implemented by the joint Art Advisory Council, chaired by Ton Rijken and art coordinator Let Geerling. In line with the decision to each pursue their own art policy, the joint Art Advisory Council was dissolved on 1 January 2025. The Board of Directors and the Executive Board are grateful to the Art Advisory Council and the art coordinator for their valuable work in recent years. Let Geerling will remain art curator/art advisor at Radboudumc and will, in the near future, with the support of Ton Rijken, make a case for the future Art Residency programme. At Radboud University, cultural coordinator Martijn Stevens is the new point of contact for art.
